Polyvagal hypnosis and the mesmeric crisis at the psychiatry and psychology congresses of Romanian universities
Psychiatrists, psychologists and university lecturers have watched hypnosis happen before their eyes. In Romania Dr. Paret was invited to give four university presentations: he explained polyvagal hypnosis and the mesmeric crisis in the language of neuroscience, then showed them live on stage with volunteers from the audience.
The presentations
- Oradea, 1–3 March 2024Congress "Psychotherapeutic orientations in modern psychiatry", organised with the University of Oradea. Dr. Paret chairs the scientific committee and presents "Using the mesmeric crisis to solve problems" and "Fascination techniques", with a three-day workshop in non-verbal hypnosis.
- Timișoara, 11 September 2025National Psychiatry Conference with international participation "A multidisciplinary approach in psychiatry", with the "Victor Babeș" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, at the Politehnica University of Timișoara. Plenary session "Hypnosis in psychiatric practice", with Prof. Adrian Bumbu: "Neurophysiological mechanisms of gaze-induced trance: hypnotic fascination and polyvagal theory". Then: "Mesmerism, practical aspects: a demonstration of non-verbal induction techniques".
- Timișoara, 16 September 2026Second edition of the conference. Hypnosis workshop with Prof. Adrian Bumbu (Psychiatry, University of Oradea): "Neurobiological models of hypnosis: from neural inhibition to the reorganisation of brain networks".
What they saw
In front of an audience of physicians, Dr. Paret showed how gaze and presence lead within moments to deep trance, and how the polyvagal mesmeric crisis, release through free movement, dissolves what freeze had blocked. He then explained every step with polyvagal theory: ventral and dorsal vagus, safety, liberation.
